It’s the XteInk X3. Same version as I have.

The clueless engineers/mechanics think the ERA tiles will add extra protection to the jet and decided to start affixing them to the body without running it by anyone else first.

The reality is that the tiles will weigh the plane down significantly and most definitely destroy the entire plane if one of them gets set off.

It’s the equivalent of strapping plate armor to a flying bird. But also the armor explodes when damaged.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Who said I love them? I don’t mind an occasional reddit repost bot that is limited to its specific community, but I absolutely despise AI slop posts and spam accounts.

That’s the wonderful thing about Lemmy, you can easily block all of those bots and pretty much make it all disappear. There are even some instances that are just bots.

Sure, new bots will be popping up every now and then, but it’s pretty easy to remove the majority of the bot posts.

They are adding ERA Panels to the outside of a jet.

ERA tiles, or Explosive Reactive Armor, are small explosive charges sandwiched between two metal plates. They are added to the outside of modern tanks as a means of protection. ERA tiles are designed to detonate when hit by a tank shell or other round.

Essentially, the small explosion they cause can greatly reduce the effectiveness of certain armor penetrating rounds.

All in all, the joke is that they are attaching a bunch of bombs to a plane that, first off, shouldn’t be concerned about tank rounds, and secondly, doesn’t have enough armor to survive the ERA detonations in the first place.

These “AI” tools are not the future of research. Sure, sometimes they get lucky and solve a complex problem, but most of the time they spew out useless junk that no one needs.

When the AI bubble pops, all of these LLMs will die off. A few will remain here and there, but they will be a shadow of what they are now.

Machine learning is what will, and already has, change the medical research field. Specialized algorithms to process mountains of data that would take humans ages to do. Probably the only good thing to come out of this AI bubble is all the research and advancements poured into machine learning.
