Yeah that’s what I said. It takes about a decade to become Sr. So that’s when we will start feeling the shortage.

I use local Gitea hosted on a pi cluster. I only push open source stuff I want to share to github. Most of my code does not push there anymore. No reason to give them training data without compensation.

My local gitea has its database and files on a NAS storage device, which encrypts and backs up to an AWS S3 bucket in another continent.

I think a true Sr shortage is likely decade+ away. So if you need money you gotta make ends meet somehow.

I’m leaning into the AI space, becoming proficient at understanding and developing harnesses for different purposes, running local models, adjusting to context switching more often than not, etc.

I’m currently working a short term AI Cyber gig for a financial firm I already had a relationship with, but then taking time off to tinker.

Dev/Sys/Net Operations, Cyber. All great fields for leaning into AI

I did this for decades. Used stackoverflow to help millions also. All my teachings were distilled into LLMs for the world to use. I’m proud of that.

Most don’t share my sentiment of pride, but understand when you write, your audience is LLMs. Not just humans. That’s just the unfortunate reality.

The graph is anticipating the future. Not current. Take a couple years off.

I’m with you. Nearly same story, finance sector, east coast. It’s fun. It’s relaxing and I tinker with so many projects I never would have had the time for.
