Doesn’t have to be thousands of dollars. Just a thing you spent money on that turned out to be a complete waste.

Loaned a friend money to buy a second hand car. The car was in worse condition than expected, broke down permanently after a few months, and he got arrested for CSAM.

I don’t think I’ll be getting my money back.
