the kids got to hear static and the high pitched whine, but it now is just furniture for a center speaker.

I assume you tried “giving it a good ol’ slap”?
I’m not familiar with the specific model, but most CRT TVs used to have a secret “slap-activated self-repair mechanism”, normally installed in one of the top corners. You just give it a good slap and it magically starts working again.
The industry term is ‘percussive maintenance’.

Sounds like you didn’t check the capacitors before you powered it on.

I haven’t touched a CRT in ages, but I once managed to repair a flat screen by switching out the capacitors that bulged, a sure sign of them being broken.
Again, not sure that this is what isn’t working, but it’s a simple repair.
Of course it could still be something even simpler.

Be careful when opening up , these capacitors when loaded can be fatal when touching.
Not to worry you too much but learn a thing or two about before going in.
You need to find someone who knows how to solder and replace capacitors.
They will remove the PCB, inspect it for any damage, remove the old capacitors, and install new ones.
If the old ones leaked, there’s a chance they could have damaged the board. Fortunately, that sort of damage is usually fixable.
And don’t feel bad. That’s a pretty common issue with older hardware. Most folks don’t realize that some of the electronic components go bad over time and need replacing or maintenance.
I hope you told them the static was the same color as the sky over Chiba City. #UnexpectedNeuromancer

I have two 19" CRT monitors in boxes in my basement and one late-model (new enough for ATSC) but cheap CRT TV, but I kinda wish I also had some TV old enough to have a mid-century modernist wooden chassis.
No you don’t. Them old tube TVs take a lot of tubes that just don’t exist anymore. And they weren’t all that reliable even when new.
Okay, I wish I had a wooden TV chassis that I could transplant more modern electronics into.
Make one. They were pretty much a box with some molding nailed to it.
