This week, students from Dragør take part in a history race where they have to play Jews on the run. It has apparently scared both tourists and citizens over time.

A couple of American tourists got something of a shock on Tuesday when they got off the bus at Dragør Stationsplads and spotted a man in a full SS uniform from the Second World War.

Here, the students have to play Jews on the run and out on mail races, where they have to go through ID checks with fake IDs, among other things.

In addition, they must hide from a costumed Nazi in full uniform and try to find hiding places on the historic fishing cutter Elisabeth K571, which is docked in Dragør Harbor and actually sailed Danish Jews to Sweden during the Second World War.

Ten years ago, the uniformed SS officers patrolled the streets freely in uniform, but now they have both reduced the number of uniforms and keep them more ‘hidden’ in the urban space.

Camilla Lærkesen also says that there are former residents of Dragør who have experienced the war, who have been very startled and touched by encountering a person in a Nazi uniform.

A total of 600 students participate over three days in the race.

The purpose of it is to engage the school-leaving classes so that they feel the story firsthand.
