Driver to be charged over Canberra double fatal collision with cyclists

Police say the 40-year-old female driver will face two charges of culpable driving causing death and one charge of negligent driving causing actual bodily harm.

Police have said the woman was behind the wheel when her sedan struck five cyclists on Gungahlin Drive in Palmerston early on August 27.

Thirty-two-year-old cyclist Bridie Lee died at the scene, while 39-year-old Ryan Riethmuller died days later in hospital.

Last weekend, hundreds of mourners participated in a tribute ride for the pair, who had been involved in the ACT’s triathlon community.
