Yeah, not a good thing to plant invasive species. As an alternative, I’ll suggest planting protected species (and making sure local authorities know they’re there) where there’s a likelihood of data centers being built. Just as much headache for data centers, not destructive to the planet.

Knotweed is an incredibly invasive species in the US. Do not plant it anywhere as it facilitates the destruction of ecosystems that it is not native to.

Destroying general purpose infrastructure to harm a consumer is predominantly harming those users that won’t be able to afford the service due to shortages.
Also destroying infrastructure that’s particularly harmful to produce causes that harm to happen again. There is more effective forms of protest that are more directly attributable to protest instead of just causing a diffuse cost.
The data center push is not for our benefit. It’s to provide compute and storage for AI mass surveillance. I’m against the use of invasive species to combat them, but destruction and disruption will have a positive effect.
Data centers are general purpose, they have a specific job. It’s not the same as if say plotting to disrupt a power grid. And trying to protect everyone while weaning people off things that harm the environment is a lose/lose battle, unfortunately. We’ve gotten ourselves into a corner with being dependent on things that have no lower redundancies.
I’m more against this for the other reason given in the replies. Even if it worked, now there’s more of an invasive species that is going to be a problem later on, as we’ve done repeatedly in the past with well-meaning introductions of plants and animals.
You’re correct that they will just repair/rebuild if nothing else is done. But passive protests don’t seem to stop that. What’s your suggestions?
