I think the reason Amodei and his gang are suddenly interested in an AI slowdown has nothing to do with preserving humanity and everything to do with providing an excuse for a bailout when the bubble pops.

I don’t think there will be a justification. They’ll merely put their hand out and receive all the money they want. We have entered a stage where billionaires are so untouchable, so brazenly unconcerned with the rest of humanity, the only “excuse” we’ll get is a bored shrug.
