      well if you want hard numbers China produces about 1100GW of energy from coal yearly and the US is sitting at 260GW. so a 7% increase on 260 still deserves what the article says about not coming anywhere near China, even per capita. We would love to see US numbers trending the other direction but the current administration can’t be bothered to interrupt its money grab. China has been holding steady in recent years, which is an accomplishment, but China still uses more coal than the rest of the world combined.

    This is 2025.

    I suspect that the global numbers for 2026 will actually be down, in large part because of the price/supply chain issues with oil from the war between the US and Iran. But I don’t think the US should get credit for that.
