No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do East Asian men barely get thick facial hair?English
31·21 hours agoGenes.
Far Eastern Asians generally have less body hair. Not just men, not just facial.
Other people do too - the reason I gave up growing a beard. Can’t get beyond the scraggly phase.
More reading:
many of the distinguishing features of East-Asian people have recently been linked to a single gene mutation.
edit: Far Eastern, not all Asians.

Which kinda reflects on how widespread that shit is.
But yeah, rarely anybody even remembers anymore how many Epsteins there are in this world. I recently wanted to make a joke about the authors of The Expanse not knowing how their hyperdrive works, what was it called again … oh yeah, the Epstein Drive … I decided to drop the joke.
That name is going to go the way of the Hitler I guess.

122·2 days agoThis has been the mainstream assumption for years by now.
Also I just realized that
- I already commented something very similar on another of this OP’s posts
- they always, 100%, link this one news outlet and none other
- they never comment
- they do this roughly 10 times a day, day in, day out
Blocked, and reported for being a bot without admitting it.

Honest question: is it even possible to separate oneself completely from AI’s multifaceted exploitation by using “FOSS AI”?
And if yes, does such ethically acceptable “FOSS AI” exist?

Yeah, never go for a superlative. Just “good choice” with an inscrutable* smile.
* I need to retain ambiguity otherwise I go crazy in no time. “Polite, keeping my (critical) thoughts to myself.” There’s something to the cliché of the English butler.

Reality is stranger than fiction. When you’re starving, a lot becomes feasible.
Also, it looks like most if not all recipes are at least 100 years old. Are there any from the 3rd millenium? I want to read about people posting weird shit to recipe sites.

It’s the sad story of exploitative toursim once again, this time how it prevents storm protection:
“You end up with a small population that is completely encircled by an expensive, exclusive AI-gen-like-ass wall of beach resorts”
Despite the production being heavily fueled by energy drinks, I recommend shouldering through it.

edit: talking about 2 different things here
The blue soldering station looks identical to mine, a cheap thing from a cheap store. The tip + some ceramic keep falling out and (I guess mostly due to that) it doesn’t work well anymore… yours seems to be fine? The tip in this pic looks almost as bad as mine.

1·4 days agoIt seems to me that what’s happened in recent years is individual companies that offer some sort of information service have been centralizing and gatekeeping
I thought that’s what you meant but your statement that the fediverse “trying to layer some order over a decentralized physical infrastructure” is totally removed from that.
BTW I’m not cynical about AI, I’m against it. There’s a difference.
Were Luddites “cynical” about mechanical weaving? I don’t think so, but the people who called them Luddites in the first place certainly were.

No to both. It’s tricky, talking about these things, because the spectre of racism looms, but it’s a real thing nonetheless. See my answer.
It’s not restricted to males though.
