There’s a several-hour band of no signal that I pass through somewhat regularly to go camping. Its not, like, anywhere near that long, but for 2-4 hrs you can have no signal. Much longer if traveling east-west, might get 6 hours that way if you hit it just right and conditions are good for blocking. Mostly because of hill and valley combos that that block signals from traveling any distance. But also people are pretty rarified in that band, for whatever reason, so putting up towers to fix the dead spot hasn’t been a priority.

I’ve never really thought it was a big deal, its not marked or anything, just a thing that’s around, though it does drive a person mad when having a conversation and trying to look something up right when you hit the band.

Depends heavily on the sect. Theres a group near me who are quite modernized and I have regular contact with them. They are nice people with an off-grid lifestyle and religion makes up a substantial part of their lives, but are otherwise largely like everyone else.

They have solar panels and in floor heating, they don’t milk by hand or anything, and they scoff at groups who don’t have such leniency. They visit non-amish and watch tv with them and stuff. Very chill.

Basically, the specific group near me I’d almost be willing to join. But I’m an atheist, so that wouldn’t work all that well for me.

The group I grew up around is a totally different bag. Very regressive, very insular community, not a great situation and not people I want to spend time around. They also weren’t very nice to anyone not part of their community, almost like they wanted to be hated. Persecution complex shit.

By the end of the day those people have already been arrested. Only thing that can be done, really, would be going forward, but just like the federal government not following the law, we need enforcement mechanisms to make things happen that are against the wishes of the people doing said things. And we really don’t have that right now, when the enforcement are the ones we are trying to restrain.

I dont see the pig union bowing to mamdani’s office without a fight every single time. Not in this climate at least.

I’m not sure how much it counts, since its more identity theft than financial scam (tho the end result is basically financial) but I replied to one of those scam jobs postings, they invited me to interview over telegram. That was red flag 1, nobody at all uses that here, so I knew it was probably a scam, and proceeded with that knowledge, mostly out of curiosity for how it would unfold.

They asked me some generic questions too quickly for anyone to have read the replies, so they got generic responses, then they offered me a job on the spot, I’d just need to send my identity documents to their super sus gmail address. Obviously I never sent anything, I contacted the company directly to see if the listing was at all legit and was told no, they weren’t hiring at all (shame too, I’d have loved that job). I also reported the posting, not that it’s likely to have mattered.

If the scammers had been a bit smarter about how they went about it, I might not have really thought anything of a text-based interview, sort of thing some places do for blind-hiring, nor is sending identity documents weird, but a drop box sort of thing would have made that one a lot less obvious… basically I can see how people would fall for it, even if my experience was too sloppy to he effective.

Most of those typos aren’t even remotely organic. There is absolutely no reason I should hit the wrong key six times in a row when I try to re-write the word correctly, excruciatingly slowly to get it right, yet every other letter is identically correct between iterations.

Phone keyboards are just pure trash, is all. We’ve had decades to get them right and just haven’t bothered.

Rather than making me likely to try the mod for this game, this article makes me never want to interact with wow ever again. Sounds like a cesspool.

And thats sad because I genuinely miss certain aspects of it and would love to have a go again with all the content they’ve released since like 2009 when I stopped playing. Or with this new entry.

I dread having to find answers on random pages now. Its this weird discomfort of not knowing if I’ve gotten dumber and don’t understand stuff I should be able to, or if it just doesn’t make sense. Its so much work to figure out, and im just not sure which at any given time anymore.

My (not yet installed) heat pump water heater wants to be connected to the internet. Can’t imagine why I’d want to do that. I know its for peak rate electricity management or whatever, something my town doesn’t seem to do due to being mostly hydroelectric, but it has a whole button pad and screen and shit built into the side of it, I think I can manage without the app syphoning my phone data, thanks. Besides, it uses so little electric I probably won’t even bother programming that.

I could see that, even if it is counterproductive. When I quit smoking I did so by swapping to cigarellos (cigars in cigarette form) they were so nasty I’d have just a small bit of one and put it out, then light it again later (making it even worse), which was highly effective to break the habit. I think it took like 2 or 3 of those packs to quit.

Then a few months later I picked up vaping, it was super new with the pen vapes and stuff and my sibling got me a kit, and did that for over a decade… I finally quit this month by filling the tank with reverse osmosis water (I’d use distilled if I didn’t have RO) because it’s been just a habit for a long while, even using 0% liquid. I wasn’t ready to give up my pacifier habit, but now I am. I hope. It’s really hard, but the tank of water helps. No burned coil, it makes the noises to tell me it’s working, but it doesn’t vaporize. Might get a bit of steam, but its not satisfying at all.

Its a shame these aren’t laid out a bit better, cuz I’m between a 5 and a 7, but thats definitely not 6.

Weirdly, this is the most normal he’s ever really looked, even with the external eyeballs. Never realized just how big of an impact those bugeyes have.

Your comments made me spend too much time looking at it and I have different dot patterns depending if I have the image as the only thing on screen or not, even though its exactly the same size.

I come across shit all the time that I’m like “what the fuck even is this? Why do I have this?” And it goes in a “what the fuck?” Box until I either figure it out or the heat death of the universe happens, whichever comes first.

As for actual stuff I know the use for, I have a light ball a friend gave me as a housewarming gift. It doesn’t work anymore, it doesn’t have buttons or any way to replace batteries, it was shake activated, but there’s nothing loose bumping around in it, and the weight is well distributed so it doesnt really feel like there’s anything in it, and transitioned through colors. It is flat on one side but otherwise a white ball about the size of a baseball, which would likely make people go “what the fuck? This a cat toy or smth?”
