Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a food related action you'd consider wrong?English
242·2 days agoThis is ridiculous, if I’m going to be paying like $30 for a burger the chef can suck it up and leave out the mushrooms. If you’re swapping central ingredients or being super nitpicky that’s one thing, but small modifications are fine exactly because there is a chef. It’s not a frozen food factory.
Food at people’s houses is different because it’s a gift. If I had to give Joann a $20 for my meal I wouldn’t be embarrassed to ask for a minor mod. Maybe a little but the dynamic is still different because it’s not her job.

I usually encounter it in NPM packages, it’s always like “200 critical vulns in your dependencies!” and then 199 of them are “if you pass a regex bomb it takes a long time lol”

Games@lemmy.world•Why so many Steam games have weirdly similar (and forgettable) namesEnglish
1·4 days agoI disagree that bullet witch is more memorable than portal although bias and the fallacy of trying to remember unmemorable games is making it very hard to tell if that would still be true with other titles. My instinct is that uncommon, distinct words (Portal, Watchtower, Celeste) are more memorable than combinations of words that compete against each other rather than forming a whole (Bullet Witch, Star Fox, Crash Bandicoot: Twinsanity). Although now that I do have examples… I have no idea, honestly it doesn’t seem super correlated.

3·4 days agoThat was a good read.
I do wish it was easier to make more nuanced statements about people’s beliefs, but labels are just so convenient, and they are the natural consequence of the true complex nature of reality needing to be collapsed into narrower concepts to make meaningful statements in language at all. It is smart to try to think beyond them if possible, which usually means making time for a longer conversation.
