It’s not a binary clean/not-clean thing. The sock will be tumbled around in water with the other clothes as it’s being dried.
The sock will be clean-ER than it was when it was on the floor. The sock won’t be AS clean as the rest of the clothes in the drier.
Depending on how dirty the sock started out, this may be all that matters. We don’t know how sweaty or stained the sock started out. We don’t know how clean this person requires their sock to be.
Would I do it? No, I prefer my socks to be cleaner than that, and my socks get kinda stinky after I wear them. But someone that mostly wore them around the house and never actually put those socks into shoes? It’s probably fine.
They’re employees.
These people only want to have relationships with people they can destroy if it doesn’t go their way.
Just because they’re both adults, doesn’t mean it can be fully consenting.
Even if it starts out 100% consenting, imagine sitting there one day at dinner trying to decide if ending the relationship also means ending your job.
These things are always about power imbalance with them.

We can start with small, easier to measure things, and work our way outwards to more and more complicated measurement techniques. Most of these techniques overlap each other and can be used to confirm our measurements.
One of the big unsolved questions in cosmology is that many of our measurements disagree, this isn’t a “problem” just an unsolved question, and as a result, we don’t know how far away things are to the accuracy we would like. That being said, we still know how far away they are to a pretty damn close approximation.
The interesting thing is, the better we get at measuring how far away things are, the more our measurements differ from each other. There’s a lot of reasons why this might be, but one of them is that a Type Ia Supernovae might not be as standard as we think it is.
One thing you missed… WhatsApp took off BEFORE facebook (now meta) bought it. So it had a huge network effect while it was independent.
