“Raindrops keep falling on my head” - Hal David & Burt Bacharach (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)
“Young Guns” - Bon Jovi (Young Guns 2)
“Wind beneath my Wings” - Bette Midler (Beaches)
“Cry Little Sister” - Gerard McMahon (Lost Boys)
Just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Not Barbie Girl but Aqua’s “Turn Back Time” was the song in Sliding Doors

I’ll always love you too @[email protected]

I should sell some old 2tb ones I have lying about.

I’m contemplating actually deleting shit. Or, if not that, storing offsite (deep storage) and then deleting, ready for that mythical time when drives become more affordable.

More drives for my NAS - 16tb was about A$250 4 years ago. Same drives are now nearly A$1200.

No. I’m an adult.
It’s an Americanism that only children partake in where I live (Australia). It’s fine, and I’m not such a miserable cunt that I would stop my kids going out (with me) to go trick or treating but it’s not something adults join in with.
It makes more sense as a harvest festival with pumpkins, sure, but it’s not pumpkin season in the southern hemisphere

Cool. I’m very happy for you.
Of all addictions to have it could be worse. But it’s actually the opposite. I love long warm showers - something about the water hitting my back whilst sitting on a stool that feels very relaxing. I have video essays going whilst I do that.

Ummm…to read this post on Lemmy?
Also, I need a new phone - the steam has made my pixel 8 pro front camera all cloudy and my screen has started dying.
Y’know, go sold by an bed. Duh…

Very interesting. Thanks for the story.
Irony
As others and yourself have suggested, that’s not really the right word for this. Irony would be if he had always said nothing was going to happen and then it did, taking him with it. In his case, he always said something would happen, was ignored, and it did, taking him with it. That would be more likely classed as a “tragedy” in the traditional sense, and he would be a tragic victim, not an ironic one

Geez, bebo.
Mine was being actually drunk and going on random boards on mIRC without changing my usual username

To answer your first point, no, just slower due to staff shortages. That’s not closure, it’s staff shortages.
“No such thing as a norm of going on vacation in summer” is the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a while. It’s summer! It’s literally the best time to go on holiday as it’s warmer and it’s school holidays so it makes sense for most people. Now I have a question…are you a USian? I ask because “lack of vacation” is a very US thing for many and you might just be thinking your life is the norm everywhere whereas, for those in civilised countries, it isn’t.

Like every country where corporations don’t run the government. There are less service industry workers available during the peak summer months as they go on vacation like normal people. The whole country isn’t closed though, you just have to be patient and be pleased they have that right to do so - it’s a sign of a people-focused economy.

The last actual Star Trek show was The Orville. The more recent ones have all followed the action sci-fi route, not asking the big questions.
Though I did enjoy Lower Decks.

As a geologist we talk in millions and billions of years regularly and it’s part of our thing to realise how small and insignificant our lives and humanity is in general.
But as an amateur astronomer, the vastness and time of space is just another level.
