I went another way. Had a look and by now there is an open source alternative in the f-droid store available.

I prefer that anyway because… reasons…

First choice: open source, second choice if OSS not available: paid app.

They are also fascinating things to just look at, I am happy just seeing them even when I am not collecting them.
And this then even includes the questionable ones. :-)

Had that last year, after switching to a new phone.

I had a look into it, and it turned out, that the company just stopped updating their existing app at some point and instead released a new one under the same name.

Correct.
I like especially the cauliflower fungus, although they sometimes are a pain i the ass to clean.
The other ones are “Hexenröhrlinge” (no idea what the English name is…), which are not great, but ok.

Funnily it was me who found the first one without actually looking, a tiny Hexenröhrling growing right in the middle of the road.
After that, we entered a slight dip, which was a little more humid and must have been full of mushrooms in the morning (we saw what the wild boars did to the ground there… still enough left for us!)

We stick to the ones we know 100% and which are clearly distinguishable from potential harmful lookalikes.
