  • Not to derail your point, but rice can be especially bad for people (myself included) where carbs (esp. white rice) make you hungry. If you’re one of those people where Chinese food makes you hungry an hour later, it’s usually because your insulin spikes in response to the rice.

For those people, obviously try to avoid white rice (and flour, sugar, and potatoes). Brown rice usually includes the fiber on the outside (which gets stripped away for processed white rice) which at least slows the carb rush.

Fresh or even frozen, unprocessed veggies that you have to cook yourself are still remarkably cheap, even in this economy. A pan of random chopped veggies and some random seasonings from the spice aisle (no blends!) can easily get you a filling and nutritious meal, and still cheaper than a box of hamburger helper.

  • “Healthy” in regards to foods is problematic at best. It all depends on the rest of your diet, your needs, and especially your dosage (portions and portion size).

Could a small amount of chicken wings be a great supplement? Sure, it has all sorts of useful micro and macro nutrients, if that’s what you need. Could you have a bunch without any impact to your health? Possibly, if you’re doing keto. Would your health improve if you cut them out? Also a maybe, if it doesn’t work with the rest of your lifestyle and genetics.

Example: Chicken is high in omega-6. This is bad for some people, but only some. And I bet you hadn’t considered it as a factor in whether it’s healthy.

  • For a while, they really were both. From that same UI, you choose for it to function as a legacy BIOS or a modern UEFI, and not just a CSM option. It probably ran UEFI underneath, but it’s not something that’s a clear cutover. This was around 1st Gen Intel Core, and might’ve been limited to Intel motherboards.

  • This is such a niche demographic that I have to wonder how it was ever viable. From the article, it sounds like it was specifically targeted towards lesbians (not the broader LGBTQ, or LGBTQ-friendly), who are immunocompromised, and want to spend time at a bar socializing with other immunocompromised lesbians. That’s going to be a vanishly small percentage of any community. I’m betting that total population in the city is what they would need to have at the bar every weekend.

As a business model, it would probably even be a stretch to target that one day per week.

  • There have been reports that some chains like target and Meijer are monitoring self-checkout errors like theft, and waiting until it adds up to become a criminal issue. All of the individual pieces are there and confirmed, it just becomes a question of how long until it becomes common.

IOW, if a cashier makes mistakes, I might get something for free. If I self-checkout and make mistakes, I might get arrested.

  • Currently, we only have baseball caps and beanies in common circulation, with impractical-for-sidewalk-use cowboy hats being the only extant outlier.

This really depends on what types of events you attend and the people you associate with. I rarely see baseball caps (and almost never a cowboy hat), but I routinely see flat caps.

Check out whatever merch shops have at whatever events you attend. Most sell hats of some sort, and probably more than just baseball caps.

Or, better yet, just wear whatever you want to wear without worrying about how others see you. Making your fashion choices based on how others will see you will never make people respect you.

  • These usually only apply to new construction. Assuming it was built to code initially, you can replace parts to that same standard forever. You can’t just connect a 15 amp wire (usually 14-gauge) to a 20a outlet/breaker - that would be a horrible violation of all codes. But you can replace that existing 15a outlet as needed.

You don’t have to run a 20a circuit unless you’re running a new line.
