As a post-2000 person, I can get a glimpse of that in some TV shows like breaking bad. Also when looking at my parents pictures from when they where younger.

But I’ve never experienced it. You can hang out with friends and all but good luck convincing 4+ friends to NOT take their phones to a gathering.

There’s always someone texting their gf/bf, someone who likes to post too much, someone deep in online gatchas.

Even an inactive user will carry their phone because of navigation, feeling insecure at night, paying stuff…

There’s a billion excuses (with a range of validity) to take your phone with you.

Idk, taxes maybe? They (gvnmt) always find money when they want/need. Securing someone for 6-7 years (enough time to land on your feet) doesn’t seem like too much money on a country level when you consider other areas of spending (defense/consulting/…)

It is unethical. If a company made a product so good it went bankrupt, there should be guardrails to ensure the workers and their families be rightfully compensated for their contribution to the better of society.

We’re drowning in waste because of this mentality of selling things no matter what.

There should be incentives to make great things, there shouldn’t be incentives to be a great stealer.

I think it works on an exponential scale. The more power you get, the easier it is to become powerful.

Billionaires have reached some kind of “endgame” where they seem to have conquered every market there is to conquer so now they must keep their power. Rightists ideologies typically have a lot more control (read repression) over their populations. Combine the two with bribes and corruptions.

Astroturfing, bots and opinion control on the web are a real thing.

Theses are my conclusions, but to be honest, I’m also surprised that they are gaining this much traction when we are approaching harder climatic conditions that are now directly affecting people.
