I thought it was fun. After looking it up myself I learned:

Spoiler warning! If you searched wiktionary directly (or used Bing, DDG, etc.), you technically followed the letter of the rules, but certainly didn’t follow their spirit.

For the origin of the word, I’m guessing it either has something to do with bad breath, or is a repurposed term from another language, likely mispronounced or misunderstood by English speakers.

Why waste time doing any matching if wantarray == false? Just do:

if(!wantarray) { return 1; }

Before any matching happens, or if you only want one return statement set the value of a variable in if(!wantarray)/elsif(regex) and return that variable at the end.
