9 hours agoNothing theoretical about this, I’ve just stopped making images with alpine, 200MB of storage won’t change anything (can be optimized really) and a lot less weird problems.

2·21 hours agoIt’s not enough, there are a lot of institutions that require grease.
Compared to earth, governments and countries that signed Outer space treaties and there is a lot of administrative hurdles you need to overcome to launch even 1U cubesat (and it takes years) and you need to comply with your launch provider and you need to comply with eco and ethics requirements, and you need to comply with telecomunnication requirements, and you need to have a license to operate. There is a million requirements from a hundred differe nt bodies both domestic and international.

Space is one of the more regulated places (probably depends on ‘space’ definition tho).
You can get weird problems due to musl when trying to use alpine with software that wasn’t expecting it, what else would you want?
You can flash them with whatever usb imager or dd? Like there is close to zero effort required and they are somewhat supported by armbian.
There are a lot of them but most suffer from chinese hardware support problem (e.g. they are unsopported beyond what did they ship with softwarewise, provide close to zero documentation, and have dozens models sold at any one time), rpi themselves aren’t all that libre and always shipped with blobs and had bullshit excuses about it. Anyway rp2350 is the best thing that raspberry produces right now.
I’m not even sure what kind of distro cachy is, some kind of gaming optimised?
4·7 days agoBeginner (with 20 years of experience with linux including nixos and 10 with lisp). 🙃 I mean I always call myself a beginner or intermediate at best but definition here is stretched to the limit.
He can’t micromanage everything and regular management will try to comply.
Not really, per gigabyte price is still very low for both ssds and hdds, and container images are layered, so if you make the containerfiles correctly additional size is minimal and comes to depencies and application itself.
