I’m not sure if he’s actually controversial, but Enrico Tartarotti is a youtuber with at least one video about software design where the comments said it was inspired by the sponsorship in it, and a different one that seemed to subtextually deny that it is imprtant for designers to know what experts want.

Also Tris ‘No Boilerplate’ Oaten got me into programming some random stuff in Rust, which is a very cool language because it has enums and a type system and a distinction between borrowing an object via a pointer and giving it over via a pointer (really sucks to implement a lisp in C because it doesn’t have this, or at least it requires new C experience I don’t have that borrow checking elegantly replaces)

Also you might read https://browser.engineering/ or you might read https://wayland-book.com/ to implement what browser engineering does while importing less other peoples code, or watch Handmade Hero, though I haven’t personally gotten very far on that.

I get very motivated to program things in pointless sandboxes, like ComputerCraft, Fancade, Logo (programming language), Geometry Dash. This might train my brain and teach me some basic concepts like SoA vs AoS (fancade, but accidentally), network architecture (ComputerCraft), but I’m also not really sure what to do for relevant reality topics.

I also do codegolf.stackexchange.com which has some pretty cool challenges.

I fundamentally don’t understand being a script kiddie (scripts from other people) because my number two Pain Causing Learning Activity is using other peoples libraries (after University Writing Projects), but I share the want/need discrepancy between how much I want to learn and how much might be good for me if I just got started.
