I’m a dorky inflatable latex coyote! Linux nerd, baker, some 3D things as I learn. Also love latex. The material, not the typography thing.

  • Nextdoor drives me nuts. I see people posting ChatGPT-generated menu poster things with not-food images in them and some folks just slurping it up despite things like when there’s 5 sides listed, and because 2 of them are potato it ends up scrambling them into one gross object (raw/boiled fry-shaped potato sprinkled with paprika, mashing up ‘potato salad’ and ‘french fries’).

Or ‘chicken’ that is Ribbed For Your Pleasure, or chicken where every hair pore is toasted so that it looks simultaneously burnt and raw.

  • God, I’ve seen so much of this.

Only reason I’m commenting is the movie thing, cause the “hard to pay attention” is wild to me, even as someone with severe ADHD.

I don’t like going to, or sitting down for, movies most of the time because of dermatillomania (warning on images there) secondary to my ADHD resulting in me usually creating entirely new holes in my fingers/hands absentmindedly while I’m watching. There’s a secondary ADHD “itch” due to the drive for spontenaeity, but I get hooked easily on what I’m watching once I do – it’s more of a “but I could be working on X project or something” thought, but then I’ll sit and watch a 2 hour episode of Dimension 20 with no distractions like it’s nothing.

I just… I don’t get how people could pivot to being so short-attention-spanned they don’t want anything like that. Those of us with ADHD are very used to how short attention spans feel, but they’re almost never that short. What the hell.

Trying any drugs at random at a concert without someone who’s real about dose and expectations is kind of…well, a bad idea in general.

Those 20mg gummies tend to state each gummy is 2-4 servings, at least mine do. It’s why the previous source I bought from sold her Delta-8 gummies dosed to 5mg each to make it far easier to nail an exact dose.

But, I also see absurd 600mg mixed THC (10% D-9, 90% D-8) ones that say “start by taking (quarter|half) of a gummy and wait several hours before trying any more” and like… that’s irresponsible as hell to phrase, but I think the expectation is – given them labeled “maximum strength” – is that you know what you’re good for before digging into those.

I don’t know what the happy medium here is on labeling and access, as I agree on the Everclear thing, but you do have to go into a store for that at least. And, to be fair, Everclear tastes like such ass even mixed with anything it has to be diluted down to like, wine strength to be drinkable generally from what I’ve seen, or at least cocktail strength.

  • And even when you do, it may not accurately respond with it. Companies are conflating complicated word-relationship math with “information”, and there’s no means by which these systems can actually verify that something that came out is accurate or not, since language models just don’t work that way. They can straight up point at sources that’re real but make the wrong conclusion because the word relationships lean that way in relation to what was quoted, and no “this new model is better!” can really solve that fundamental flaw with Large Language Models in general, or things that operate like they do.

Watson was groundbreaking because of the way it worked as an information match model, designed not to be generative but merely to match one prompt “concept” with a target scored on relations. It was almost like how LLM scoring works but fundamentally still different, with a TON of hand-training done to get there. And I was just thinking about, the other day, how much I think these companies want people to correlated what Watson was doing on Jeopardy with LLMs.
