I’m glad you brought up “AI as a Search Engine.” Apparently my take is a “2023 take,” but I would argue that it is even more relevant in 2026. Modern day search engine results are polluted with AI slop and therefore the AI responses are as well. How many recursive levels are we going to get before the human source is like 5 levels deep, and are we already there?

Obviously, I have used AI within the last week. Not for anything serious, I mean my mom uses Google’s AI Overview more than I use it to ask my own questions. However, if I can’t trust it to output anything authoritative, which I don’t, and just look elsewhere to enforce its claim, then why would I even bother? I’m better at determining the legitimacy of a source than it is, and that’s perhaps the whole point of my argument.

Granted, there are a few uses for AI, like getting a quick approximation to an answer where accuracy isn’t important in the moment and you are in a bind for time, however, I would almost sooner admit to whoever that I simply don’t know the answer at the moment.

honestly I can probably count the number of times “AI” has helped with learning something on one hand. Maybe with extremely surface level “explain like I’m 5” explanations, but as soon as you expect more detail or point out inaccuracies, it stops being useful and more of like a confidently wrong tutor.

It’s hilarious how both AI companies and Nvidia are both going each other’s way in “AI progress” when really it’s all about their bottom lines.

It’s a coreboot distribution (FOSS BIOS/UEFI), so technically it works on more things than advertised.

To install it it does require a little bit of preparation. There’s a lot of commands you have to run using a custom compiler toolchain to build an image for your board. The hardest part is disassembling the laptop, if you have an older one, which is mostly what Libreboot targets.

Has anyone noticed that when a teammate uses AI, their teammates also have to as well? Honestly it might be because they don’t want to bother reading the machine’s code when the original author didn’t put much thought into it. Another might be the mental fatigue from reading code that grows faster than you can parse.

Srs, I don’t think I’ve ever owned a consumer device that, as the other person points out, didn’t have blobs inside from the factory. Sure, ive manually replaced the BIOS with Libreboot and switched to blobless (software) WiFi chips, but then what about the EC blobs? The keyboard and mouse? If being fully FOSS predicates ownership, I don’t think any of us own our devices

Yeah this makes my blood boil. It’s been happening for yearrss, long before the AIpocalypse. So many used/decommissioned computers on eBay that don’t even have RAM. As for storage, there is somewhat of a “data sanitization” angle there, but seeing as how people put used disks up anyways, there is kind of no excuse to not leave them in after sanitizing them.

I reported as many as I could under “suspected as fraudulent.” Nowhere can I find an option that says “Presale” is not allowed. I’m not that surprised since this is eBay.
