On top of that again it’s idealism vs realism. Yes idealism is what it could be, but the system isn’t changing anytime soon. I’m sorry, but it’s not. Unless the majority of people suddenly mobilize, but I’ve been waiting now 30 years and at multiple points thought maybe they finally would, but it’s not happening. Once you realize that it’s idealism, then you can move into realistic options.

AWS, Azure, and GCP had plenty of capacity 6 years ago for the entire “web” that they ran, now all of a sudden they need 20x the capacity.

“No more police” is an idealistic concept that would never make it out of committee and is routinely used by the right to “prove” to themselves that we can’t be taken seriously. “Demilitarized police” instead is a concept that could be actually implemented, and could get support from both the people and politicians and could actually be implemented.

If you seriously believe that we could pivot next year to “no more police” then you’re deluding yourself, there’s no politician in this entire country who would stake their career on that. Nice to dream, but no way in reality it would ever happen, and using it only fuels the right.

I agree with this, and it’s why movements like OWS and BLM have more or less done nothing. Those are complex concepts with lists of things that need to be done. The right has “Lower taxes” and “Let us be racist”. The left though has nuanced concepts and new things that people have never heard of. People hear “Lower taxes” and know what that means. Universal healthcare is new and complex, and so the right reduces it to something they understand, “higher taxes” and other fearmongering. Meanwhile we’re trying to show amortization rates of providing care to everyone and the right has simple phrases.

Rinse and repeat for everything. We tried “Defund police” but the right only heard “No more police” because there is a lot of nuance to “defund police”, like demilitarizing and focusing on sending in people who can actually help. “Climate change” is a complex nuanced subject that takes a long time to understand, but the right reduces it to “They want to take away your truck”.

Gay marriage I think worked because it was a very simple message, allow gays to marry. They tried to reduce it however they could but in that case their arguments were the harder ones to follow. I think we need to think about how we describe things, and try to avoid from the beginning needing to explain concept subjects to (I’m sorry but) simple people. Universal healthcare should simply mean “We run a government level insurance program, like all of the other countries, so no one gets denied coverage”. Or something like that.

I remember the big CoD vs Halo “wars” back in the day, and this is exactly what I didn’t want. I liked Halo’s slower combat, more strategy combining shields, grenades, melee, and weapons. Now (5 and Infinite confirmed) it’s just another twitch shooter, with pistols/rifles that act like snipers and everyone trying to one shot. The few Infinite MP games I did play I was always alone in the warthog while others just went on solo. It’s not the same experience it used to be.

I’ll say that while I agree with you, the manner of how you call it out is important. If you are too intense about it you’re more likely to get an eyeroll and people to double down on their belief that it’s nothing. A gentle nudge can do more than a fallout usually.

That’s me buying and upgrading our cooling HVAC to prep for hotter summers, but also making it a heat pump so I don’t need to burn gas anymore. It’s also my recycling and reducing consumption even though I know I’m one person in a vast sea. I try to follow Nemik’s words from Andor: “Try”. What most people refuse to do at all is to try to improve our world, as long as you’re trying, you’re doing more than the vast majority.

That’s why I think I’m just calling it. Halo 5 was bad, Infinite had good gameplay but the story was meandering and boring.

Campaign Evolved was the second remake of the original, which again is just graphic flashiness with none of the understanding of what made the game special to begin with.

Multiplayer has been moving from the magic that was 2 and 3 to more CoD style because they don’t understand that you can have a shooter that isn’t a twitch shooter. So I don’t have any hope for their multiplayer either.

I’m very sad, but I’m just kind of done with it.

I tried to fight it online, you won’t win. Their algorithms bury your stuff, your comments get the stupid laughing emoji, it’s not worth it. Plus it just starts to suck you in so it’s a lose lose.

The only thing that helps is getting them off their phones. There’s no silver bullet there, but simply disconnecting them somehow. Starting a hobby with them, or hiking, or something that isn’t being in their phones. If you ban phones you’re the villain so be careful, but you can do things that are less phone involved. When they’re not memorized by their phones they come back a little.
