cool, I didn’t know roff. Ended up building my own typst setup, which is readable enough to not need a md as source IMO, but it’s fast af and better to work with than LaTeX.
Typst is cool. I probably would have used it myself if it were mature enough by the time I started with this project.
Why
roff? Why not LaTeX ortypst? No reason, I just wanted to flex. Also, I believe roff still in 2026 generates PDFs faster than any other markup system by a couple of milliseconds. So one must respect the early UNIX gurus.I would also point out that users of
roffumecan considerroffan “implementation detail” and ignore it entirely. The main benefit ofroffumeis the creation of “per-application, self-contained folders” containing all inputs (markdown), outputs (PDFs), and commands.
