The Sword of Shadows series. By J.V. Jones.
The best fantasy I have read in decades. It rivals, and in some ways, is better than A Song of Ice and Fire.
And after almost a 15 year wait the penultimate book is done and the author appears to be back in the saddle to finish the series.
It is grimdark fantasy at its finest. And Jones was one of the original genre-defining authors.
I wouldn’t trust any of the current producers to do it, or any decent book, justice, though. Seems like LotR was the last really epic adaptation.
“Malazan book of the Fallen” by Steven Erikson. An Epos that dwarfs the whole of LotR.
Or an animated series of all Discworld novels…
The Bobiverse books by Dennis E. Taylor, and The Shadow of the Leviathan series by Robert Jackson Bennett. These are two series I would love to see rendered as animated or live action stories.

most dont even stay true to the source material, unless the original writer is on board, even then they can be influenced by executives, like with sandman. with the obvious thing happened with lucifer and death.(not true to the source, only the words were)
invincible is another, with tech jacket, even with the creator on board.
on one hand, series like nutrek just straight up plagiarizes fan novels without giving credit.
i think Against a dark background by Banks could make a fucking amazing series but them I’m 99% sure they would fuck it up and I wouldn’t enjoy it.
I really liked The Wool but didn’t like Silo at all. Loved HHGTTG and TV series was good but it’s just a fairly accurate adaptation, nothing great. The movie was weak. The first Dirk Gently show was mediocre, the second was fairly good but was only loosely based on the books.
I don’t get the obsession some people have with specific lores. Good lore alone doesn’t make a good show. Many shit shows were based on The Witcher. I would love to see good, deep, layered, hard Sci-Fi show and I don’t care what it’s based on. Good lore is like 10% of a good show. At the same time good book is good enough in itself, I don’t have see it rehashed in a different format.
I’d like to see The Player of Games adapted. I think it’d work pretty well. Or consider phlebas. The nonlinearity of the other books can make for challenging TV narrative.
Use of Weapons, State of the Art and Inversions would also make great movies. The rest relies on AI to much.
But I still think there’s only about 10% chance that someone who actually gets those books would be tasked with adapting them to the screen and wouldn’t fuck it up.

Pierce Brown’s Red Rising
John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War book series. Apparently it’s been optioned for 15+ years now, but nobody’s actually gotten around to making the damned thing yet.
I’d love to see The Dispossessd in film but only if it was made by people who share the same anarchist/communist ideological commitment. If Hollywood tries it you know that part will be taken out, which would take the entire heart and soul out of it.

Seveneves. I don’t like the last part but the story is cinematic and grandiose.
I would kill to watch Asimov’s work being adapted by Christopher Nolan. Personally Nolan has been a hit or a miss for me, but Asimov and him are a match made in heaven.
