Wait what? Has Apple successfully stolen LG’s valor? I could have sworn it was the iPhone in 2007.
I’m actually kind of shocked that I wasn’t aware of this phone.
Edit: you know, I’ve never been a huge fan of Apple or Steve Jobs, and I know he pretty much stole every idea they ever had… But for some reason I always gave them credit with the iPhone.
The LG Prada was announced shortly before Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the iPhone on 9 January 2007.[10][11][12] After the release of the iPhone the head of the LG Mobile Handset R&D Center was quoted saying he believed Apple had stolen the idea from the Prada after it was announced as part of the iF Design Award, where it won a prize in March 2007.[13][14]
The rumor is that the whole iPhone concept was actually the idea of one unnamed engineer at apple who worked on it in his spare time; apparently he had the idea at the same time as the folks at IG, probably it was kind of a natural evolution of the earlier devices. (You have to consider that the thing that made the iPhone such a success, the “app store”, was not available from the beginning. The first devices had no official way of adding any software, but people quickly found hacks and added a debian-like package management to it. From there the first custom applications spawned and only then Apple understood the potential of opening the platform to third-party developers.)
Regarding the engineer, apparently he was fired by his supervisor for spending time on this “stupid” idea; but back in the day, Apple had the policy that everyone who was fired had to report to Jobs one last time, and then he showed him what he was working on and Jobs took it from there.
Like i dunno who this article is for. We’ve had phones since 2014. Never had much of an issue on some; others die.
