Yep. Boomers were saying the same thing when they entered the workforce (hell, it’s probably been captured in a few movies and shows). I think it tends revolve mostly around how large a give age demo is, as to how much this gets catered to by the culture. Gen X had similar sentiments, but we were mostly told to shut up and/or ignored by the media.
I’d hear this kind of thing in my twenties - bitching about boomers was an OG X thing, but appropriated by Gen Y - Gen X would grumble that all the boomers were choking off all the jobs, including the entry-level ones.
But I thought it was stupid then, too - do people in their twenties really expect to only have people in their 20s and 30s in the workforce or something? As people generally start to live longer, I’d not be surprised at all to be working with people from late teens all the way even into the 80s. Maybe even further if healthspans get extended.
I mean, if we hit some kind of abundance inflection point where everyone only works as much as they want in some kind of endless creative utopia, and everyone is getting a UBI to have all their needs met and then some, I’m all for dropping out. Until then, the way our system works, people pretty much need to work from adolescence to at least 67 just in order to eat and have basic healthcare. But probably past that age, too. Obviously that is going to span more than one artificially-constructed “generation”.
