I just finished my Shawazu game Boy dumper project! I originally got it to rescue my Pokemon before the battery dies, but now I use it to archive my game collection and play it on the steam deck! Building it was fun, but soldering all those little cartridge connections was a bit tricky. I also needed to compile the firmware for the raspberry pico, which I have never done before. So i also learned a lot during the project. Unfortunately not every rom I dump works, and sometimes the file names are gibberish. I’ve read it’s because aftermarket cartridge connectors are not very high quality and I need to really push it against the connectors. Or maybe the firmware got a problem? Needs some more tinkering but it’s a fun project!

This is probably the edible talking but… I’m enjoying this through the lens of the sci-fi trope of humanity trying to cheat death by digitizing the soul.
We haven’t figured out the technology for ourselves yet, but here we have a person at their workbench, driven by empathy for a digital pet, going apeshit with a soldering iron to try and transfer their little friend’s ghost before its shell fails. That’s cyberpunk as fuck.
