Congress passed a symbolic resolution on Tuesday to condemn socialism — a move that saw eight Democrats cross the aisle to back the GOP on the measure.

The vote, which has no actual effect on public policy, was swiftly mocked by observers on social media.

“Voting to condemn an economic system that doesn’t exist in our country, to protect the one which we live under that exploits the working class to benefit the obscenely wealthy,” wrote Melanie D’Arrigo, executive director of Campaign for New York Health. “This was Congress’ priority as 60% of Americans struggle to afford food, housing and healthcare. Embarrassing.”

Oh? Well that’s good then. The DSA is the only active political group we have that’s giving at the bare minimum lip service to taking care of the population instead of enriching billionaires. If that’s a threat to a party, then that party sucks and shouldn’t be in charge of anything.

I’m glad you’re happy with losing elections to MAGA in exchange for some lip service then.

Wild that you’ll just say it out loud, but here we are.

OH! Well my mistake, I didn’t realize advocating for the population and winning elections is what’s going to keep MAGA in power. Let’s just give all our money to Musk and Bezos and they’ll surely take up the mantle you want the government to not. Brilliant!

You got it backwards. The Dems are losing because they support the status quo, not progressive policies like the growing number of millennial and Z voters want. They’re the ones falling further behind because of this free-market fascist kleptocracy crap. You have Dems engaging in insider trading, supporting Israel, obeying corporate masters, breaking ranks and siding with the GOP/oligarchs… establishment Dems progressively look more and more like the GOP as time passes.

Where are they losing for those reasons? What evidence do we have that DSA-backed candidates will flip those seats in the general?

Mmm, a nice healthy serving of both-parties-are-the-same slopulism, with no examples given or reasons why the DSA would fix these issues.

They actually have a coherent platform. Go look at it. The DSA-backed guys like Mamdani are doing good stuff.

Meanwhile, the dems platform mainly consists of orange man bad, while ignoring polling that shows most Americans want universal health coverage , not the half-assed public/private ACA nonsense that fails to keep healthcare prices in check, while continuing to allow the insurance industry to profit off something that is a basic human right.

You have centrist democrats in battleground and red states resisting climate change timelines when nearly two-thirds of Americans want climate change addressed.

Meanwhile, you have the DSA proposing really good stuff, like eliminating the senate to get rid of disproportionate representation of red states with small populations, who have also gerrymandered the heck out of the electoral map to gain further advantage and shut out the power of a majority vote.

If you don’t want progressives to run a coup within the Dem ranks, then actually use a good platform 🤷‍♂️ They’re the ones trying to get rid of the corprocrats.

They actually have a coherent platform. Go look at it.

I have. It’s in line with their Marxist-Leninist ideology. Has the greatest hits like:

                • Abolish capitalism
                • Seize private property
                • Government-provided (somehow):
                  • Housing
                  • Food
                  • Pre-K to college education (including medical education and training)
                  • Energy
                  • Universal healthcare
                  • Transportation
                • Abolish the police and the ability for the state to incarcerate people (so… vigilante/mob justice)
                • Prosecute people they consider to be war criminals (remember, the far left accused Kamala and Biden of genocide)

The DSA-backed guys like Mamdani are doing good stuff

Mamdani is alright. But especially in the beginning, people glaze him for things he didn’t have anything to do with, or that’s just part of the job that any mayor would have done. Stuff like “balancing the budget”, tiktoks about potholes being filled after tweeting at him, childcare expansion, transit upgrades, etc.

But that’s part of the vanguard party strategy. Sell the “see, we’re not so bad, we just want healthcare and free busses lol” narrative to garner populist support.

the dems platform mainly consists of orange man bad

They actually have a coherent platform. Go look at it.

polling that shows most Americans want universal health coverage, not the half-assed public/private ACA nonsense

But your source says “35% of all adults favor a single national health insurance system run by the government.”?

You have centrist democrats in battleground and red states resisting climate change timelines when nearly two-thirds of Americans want climate change addressed.

And yet Biden passed the largest climate and clean-energy legislation ever in US history during his term. Didn’t get much media attention for some reason…

Meanwhile, you have the DSA proposing really good stuff, like eliminating the senate to get rid of disproportionate representation of red states with small populations, who have also gerrymandered the heck out of the electoral map to gain further advantage and shut out the power of a majority vote.

And how is that position reflecting in the polls? Is it looking likely to swing any elections?

If you don’t want progressives to run a coup within the Dem ranks, then actually use a good platform

The vast majority of the positions these DSA-backed candidates hold that resonate with the voter base are pretty well in line with the general positions of the Democratic party at large. But they serve it up with a healthy dose of “fuck the system, man” and people lap it up.

Meanwhile, look at the disaster that was Graham Platner. Apparently they’re cool with a nazi mercenary rapist so long as he isn’t a gasp establishment dem.

And then you have their unhinged pundits, who AES chose to campaign with, and refuses to strongly condemn for their behavior like saying America deserved 9/11, cheering on terrorist attacks, platforming terrorists, etc. Now their even starting to call for violence against liberals for being anti-DSA. All of which is being used by Republicans as free easy ammo to smear the whole party.

I want all the “extreme stuff” though.

You what’s extreme? Valuing money and property over human life. Capitalism will always degenerate and lead to alienation and social degeneration of the working class in favor of the capitalist class. Money is the root of all evil.

They are transparent about their beliefs. The working class absolutely needs to seize power and put the capitalist class under their thumb. Lest we become a fat, lazy nation dying from heat stroke in an Amazon warehouse while AI takes over most jobs. Don’t think for a second whether they care that you live or die. And they bought off the majority of our government.

I want all the “extreme stuff” though.

So you want an authoritarian communist regime. That’s fine, but then don’t be surprised when people push back.

Or maybe you didn’t actually mean all the “extreme stuff”. Just the “extreme stuff” like affordable healthcare and housing? Because, again, those are just bog-standard establishment Dem positions. No reason coalition-build with tankies to push for those.

This surface-level Marxist critique is nice and all, but it’s really just moral grandstanding without any substance. It’s so intellectually lazy to hand-wave away the problems of the world as being the result of a spooky class of people and an evil economic system. Especially if you can’t explain how your magical, perfect system will be completely corruption-free.

It’s very telling that you won’t engage with any specifics or examples. You’ve just completely dodged the vast majority of my response, including where I showed that you made up fake statistics.

Pick a DSA-backed candidate. Give me the policy positions they campaigned on that you like. Tell me how they differ significantly from the candidate they won over.

That would be a very simple start. If you can’t do that, you should really consider why you hold such strong opinions about this.
