I think the reason Amodei and his gang are suddenly interested in an AI slowdown has nothing to do with preserving humanity and everything to do with providing an excuse for a bailout when the bubble pops.

The thing is, AI is such a money pit I’m not sure it can be bailed out.
Give them one hundred billion dollars and they’ll be back in a couple of months for more.
They know that. It’s the reason X’s bullshit is listed on the NASDAQ. They will just skim from everyone’s 401k until everuthing collapses.

those gpus and high bandwidth ram aren’t really useful to most people… like, you’d need a rack server because the gpus don’t have integral cooling, or even hdmi/dp out…
I want HDDs to build a RAID
Bought a 20TB HDD about 6 months ago. I went to look into buying another last month, and it is now sold out, on indefinite back order, and costs over twice as much as I paid earlier this year.
They can keep their HBRAM and GPUs
they will probably try to peddle thier AI into survelliance tech for countries, which they are obsessed with.
