The people who build these know how bad it is but they just do their job.

The people who program those know the damage and insane risk it poses but they keep doing it because it’s their job.

Some CEOs are downright saying it out loud how damaging and dangerous this can be but they don’t stop because they are responsible to provide shareholder value.

They’re all working on building the equivalent of a giant bomb that might destroy the planet and can’t stop because they might fall behind their competitors who are doing the same thing and miss out on making more money before someone inevitably detonate theirs and destroy the planet.

Everyone knows it is a bubble that props up the economy and that it will create a huge recession when it pops because everyone knows it will never generate the income it needs to achieve a profit.

And yet investors are still pouring billions of dollars into it to keep it going because it has pretty much achieved the status of meme stock. They’re using is to make money out of thin air in a giant Ponzi scheme.

Self regulation clearly does not work. And the government still doesn’t want to regulate it because they were told that they might fall behind their enemies if they do.

For crying out loud, we controlled and regulated the crap out of nukes. Why can’t we do the same here?

Oh wait for it. It’s not even close to how high it will get once Iran times another closure of the Hormuz strait for maximum impact for the midterms

Sadly I can see a future where the non-smart option will no longer be available. Or very limited in choice for the consumer.

It’s already the case with TVs. The next logical step is to make it so it will refuse to work unless you connect it to the internet to “activate” it or even worse have it connect to the cellular network to be always on-line whether the owner of the device is aware of it or not. The vast majority of the consumers are still completely ignorant about this and buy this crap.

Fortunately appliances seem to still offer plenty of “non smart” options for now. But who knows what it will be in 10 years?

The worst is that a significant proportion of the answers or information you get from them are wrong.

The more they throw it around, the less it means anything.

That’s what’s great with projects like KDE. They’re run by programmers who can tell what this charlatan is pushing for is bullshit, not businessmen who would gobble all of those shiny empty promises up and drive their organization into the ground with it.

How is there a Tetris Company that owns the rights to this? Hasn’t the actual creator of the game never gotten anything for it?
