  • How was Linux back in 2011? I first tried Linux in about 2012 or so with Manjaro (LOL) and then moved over to ElementaryOS as the laptop I was trying Linux on was old and thought it would run better. It still borked eventually as did Manjaro, but that was probably more to do with me definitely not understanding anything I was doing!

I think Mint will be my next distro if anything goes wrong with Fedora, which again, would probably be due to my newb skills with Linux more than the software itself. If I wanted to game on Mint, and play games such as the new Witcher 3 remaster or say the upcoming Fable game, how would I make sure it is capable of playing those games with the kernel and modules you mentioned? Just for future reference!

I’m intrigued by the Win98 game! What game is it? I think it is VERY cool that you are decomping and then remastering on the Godot engine. :-]

  • Thank you!

I have been here on Lemmy since Reddit killed Apollo (3rd party API fiasco), and for Linux I have been using it mainly for gaming since 2024 I believe?

I moved over to Linux when I saw how good the Steam Deck was running emulators and thought “Why the hell not try it out on my desktop?”.

I started with openSUSE, but learned last year near Christmas that maybe it was a little too bleeding edge for a newbie like me who just wants to game as their only real use case for the gaming desktop.

I’m on Fedora now almost a year in, and am enjoying it more that it isn’t as bleeding edge as SUSE, but still more updated than Debian for my more modern games that I like to try out.

How about you? If that’s okay to ask? I realize a comment section on a meme page may not be the ideal place, but conversations are always welcome. :-]

  • Thank you. It seems so hard to find like-minded people on the internet for me. I’ve tried and tried and tried over the years and just never felt welcome anywhere online with others who might share my interests.

Couple this with IRL issues finding those people, and it can be lonely at times.

Thank you for your comment, it’s hard to not feel like a “me” issue, but comments like yours help to alleviate that feeling. :'-]

  • Thanks for being kind, at the very least!

It’s already been jailbroken, but certain firmwares will get more love and attention in the scene. Kstuff, shadowmount, etc. are all important things to keep in mind when thinking about updating to newer firmwares. I have access to more jailbreaks because of the low firmware.

Like, in another year, there might be another vulnerability found in older firmwares like mine that could enable a full untethered jailbreak. That’s what I would LOVE to see. It would just be nice to have an actual conversation with someone about it is all I was saying.

    Thanks again, seriously. :-]

  • Wow.

I did and didn’t see anything pertaining to whether or not someone SHOULD update from an older firmware.

You might be new to the jailbreaking scene, so let me explain. There are certain firmwares that are going to be more capable than others. This also means that there are firmwares that developers will focus on more than the newest one, either because their own machine is a specific firmware or because that’s where most of the other tools for jailbreaking are still being worked on.

Imagine making a comment about wanting to talk to someone about something because you want THEIR input, then you come in and point to the fucking article that doesn’t have anything about what I am asking about.

    Dickhead.

  • I can’t comment on ModdedWarfare’s channel since I don’t have a YouTube account, but my PS5 is still on 4.03.

Most of the comments on his videos are those of people who are never really patient enough for these types of things, so I wish I could talk to someone who has a low firmware like myself and them let me know if I need to stay on 4.03 for any future exploits, or is it time to get the latest firmware that can use these new exploits?

  • Same here. I sometimes have issues with updating even Fedora. Point of fact, just yesterday I logged in and noticed Firefox acting like a slideshow when scrolling. Videos would also lag (I could tell it was lagging because I was watching a video about recompilation projects and the onscreen game was Dusklight running at 60 yet my screen was lagging) and games even would too.

I got frustrated and updated everything again through Discover and it was back to normal.

I do NOT like to update my Linux or Windows computers because I have shit luck and there is always something going wrong on either. :'-]

  • If you see someone who is bigger than you get out of their car, while you are already in a heated exchange, have some self-preservation in you to be able to react in a way that this mentally unwell piece of shit can’t just grab you by the neck and slam you down. Get ready to fight, or please just leave the scene as quickly and safely as you can.

I don’t blame the biker. All around the world “people” are becoming more and more like animals. Acknowledge this, and prepare yourself for anything these animals might do. :-/
