I plan to set one up with a little La Crosse weather station my parents gave me. Turns out it seems well supported and gives me accurate indoor and outdoor temperature as well as wind speed and other stuff like storm predictions. Gonna link my heat pump to it and have my NTFY ping me when I should start the fireplace instead.
We get a lot of small microclimates where I live so its more reliable than the forecast.
I also find the federation makes it even more fragmented and difficult to find content from the few creators I’d follow (mostly reposts from Youtube).
And it’s not even like the different instances follow a theme consistently.
It should just be you check on a bunch of instances and you get a combined feed of them all. If thats possible on the app, it isnt obvious enough.
I think the architecture of federation is flawed. Different instances should share the same common elements while each hosting their own.
On Lemmy there shouldn’t be 5 different subs of the same thing where everyone just goes on the most popular one. Everyone should be rehosting the same sub on their own… I mean that’s how the internet works. That’s DNS is shared…
Peertube’s main usecase for me would be links based video hosting. So if I wanted to embed or link a video in a webpage, or a course moodle.
We say that, but if the prices maintain habits will change. After the Iraq invasion in 2003, I saw people buy more and more smaller city cars over the next half a dozen years (at least in Canada).
Even GM, Chrysler and Ford were bringing small cars to the market until 2008-2010.
Once affordability and credit dry up, there’ll be demand for small hybrids, economy cars and electric cars. SUVs and Pickups are just popular because car loans were so cheap. And gas prices have never been as low as the last decade.
Hyper scalers have so little for their models and compute to do they are just brute force hacking things or mining crypto.

Couldnt you just make daily snapshots on baremetal? Like most configs will support a ZFS pool.
All my stuff is just configs anyway, so my backup is a Git commit. Lighter than a full snapshot. My server can be restarted with like 50mbs of information.
Docker images are images so disposable. All my files and databases are on my NAS which is a ZFS pool mirrored and with a weekly backup to a secondary NAS also mirrored. Plus I have an offsite cloud backup of everything. There isnt really anything on my server that matters other than some configs, scripts and ymls. Which by commiting to my Gitea, are all on my NAS with the rest of my data.
I still feel like Proxmox just invites you to tinker and fiddle with stuff that should be set and forget. Or overcomplexify your setup with too many moving parts.
For public stuff I just use a VPS. Better internet connection than at home, high availability and DDOS protection. Otherwise, an LXC with good firewall rules and a well configured reverse proxy should be sufficient.

Honestly, you are right it didn’t. CS majors get way less work than Software Engineers where I live. CS is mostly academic and not practical. Maybe different elsewhere, but not a golden ticket. I don’t like working with compsci grads because they don’t know how to make stuff. They don’t know best practices or how to make reusable code and features. Software engineers on the other hand, actually useful contributors.
Nevertheless, Software engineering, just like other engineering fields, way way way over saturated. Mechanical and electrical engineers in places like Toronto are just working Starbucks. You gotta be top of class or there’s nothing for you.

The worst part is I was just starting to name these things “SI” but not for that reason. I think “Simulated Intelligence” is the best description of these chat bots.
Well guess that idea is DOA.

Who cares, let them sleep on the value of the degree. ;)

Most Arts and Sciences are liberal arts. But yeah, you can still get general education in lots of places and it’ll usually be under the liberal arts umbrella.

Listen, the marines were always cooler than the spartans. They were just normal humans against giant fuckin monsters with gravity hammers and energy swords.
This trailer still goes hard:

Honestly, its beyond billionaires. Even upper management and smaller business owners are slopping up the koolaid like its nobody’s business. They feel like they just got that secret weapon to lord over all their employees or fix every problem they couldn’t manage.
There’s really this maliciousness to it. The way they talk down and chew out people objecting or raising concerns. There’s this mask off righteousness and entitlement to them that I’ve rarely seen before.
They believe they are 100% they are in the right and nothing will stop them.

Not even predicted. This is what everyone realized the second they started having to use Ai tools at work. This has been wide knowledge for a year or two, and likely known by those doing early tests with it prior.

My understanding is excessive sugar consumption reveals type 2 diabetes. The underlying cause tends to be genetic and excessive sugar consumption accelerates the arrival of symptoms.
It’s like how you can be allergic to bees your whole life and just never get stung by bees.
Its thus not completely misleading to say excessive consumption of sugar may lead to diabetes, like bee stings can lead to an allergic reaction.

Recession isnt breaking because Ai is pumping the market.

Its up to you, but trades have very little flexibility. If the job market changes or dries up, you can transfer very little without going out and getting a new trade.

Honestly, its just a boom/bust cycle out of the pandemic. They overhired in 2021/2022. Hang in there, it’ll sort itself out.

Title clowning on Liberal Arts, but that’s one of the best educations to have in an Ai dominated job market… or any competitive job market.
99% Invisible did a show on the Brannock Device (the big metal thing in shoe stores to measure your feet) and how important it was to the war effort. Well fitted shoes go a long way.
