Some middle-aged guy on the Internet. Seen a lot of it, occasionally regurgitating it, trying to be amusing and informative.

Lurked Digg until v4. Commented on Reddit (same username) until it went full Musk.

Was on kbin.social (dying/dead) and kbin.run (mysteriously vanished). Now here on fedia.io.

Really hoping he hasn’t brought the jinx with him.

  • Interesting. It would appear that this artist, in order to manga-fy their work, flips it horizontally before adding, or perhaps editing, the speech bubbles and other text.

The evidence being that the Earth in the sandwich is flipped horizontally.

I mean, I suppose Mimi’s Earth just looks like that, but their entire reality would have to be flipped for it to be anything like our Earth.

Also, fun fact: The largest thing that has been the content of a sandwich is indeed the Earth itself. Some wags in Spain and New Zealand arranged to put a slice of bread on the ground at antipodal points at the same time. The bread was far too small and the contents huge, but we generally don’t declassify things from being a sandwich if the contents hang outside the bread.

  • An item covered in the blood of the innocent is still an item covered in the blood of the innocent even if the person who smeared the blood of the innocent all over it is now dead.

Even if you substitute the largely victimless “excrement” for “the blood of the innocent”, many, if not most, people are still going to find the stench and the filth impossible to ignore.

You can attempt to reclaim, repurpose, wash or paint over or whatever you like to diminish the effects, but it’ll still be there, lurking, giving off unpleasantness on a hot day, whatever that means in terms of the metaphor. Heated discussion, when people learn about the originator, perhaps.

  • Probably the time I used a cash machine in a weird place in my home town to draw out the maximum I could for Christmas spending and all I got from it was the receipt saying the money had gone from my account.

The place was weird because, although it was in a very public square, it was kind of high off the ground, like it had been installed for people over 6ft tall. I am not that tall. The novelty appealed to me anyway. Mistake.

I was so ashamed, I never reported it. I didn’t think I’d be believed.

If you want actual things, I own a pre-smartphone electronic personal organiser that I used about five times and about a dozen calculators from when I got really into them for some reason. And at least one of those was “parts only” that I completely missed in the description.

But if I could undo anything, I’d rather have that cash machine money back.

  • Seriously, at one employer I was once asked to look through someone’s browser history on the computer they’d left unlocked during their lunch break.

It could really be as simple as that if you leave your computer unattended and insecure.

(As it turned out, either they were really good at covering their tracks or they just did a bit of random browsing. Nothing I didn’t do myself, so I said there was nothing really to worry about there.

They later got canned for underperforming, but their browsing habits weren’t really a point against them.)

  • Whenever I’ve seen a fox it’s always been through a window or, vaguely, possibly, at a significant distance.

Memories are blurry and I’ve been in vehicles and houses in the same places I’ve seen foxes. It’s possible I was outside on foot for at least one of those.

On the other hand, I could bend “wild” the other way and think about the handful of scary dog encounters I’ve had. Never been near enough to a fox to give it the remotest reason to attack. Those dogs were a different matter.
