      If Signal could send an SMS, sure… otherwise it is not a replacement as I’m hardly going to ask a business “what is your signal username” instead of the universal (in Canada) “what number can I reach you at?”

        Yeah, I guess I was talking more about messaging other people.

        I can’t think of any businesses in the USA that I contact by text, but that sounds nicer than the standard here, which is that you have to talk to a AI chat bot for like 10 minutes before put you on wait for a person

          It’s probably slightly different as an individual to business. I’m speaking solely from my personal experience of b2b working in a service job. Contacts at other companies are numbers and internal employee contact is email or phone. I don’t really see this changing until there is a new standard installed on all phones by default.

    I’ve tried a bunch of FOSS alternatives, and so far Quik is the best, but pretty limitted feature.

    If you’re willing to give a corporation access to your messaging, might as well use the much better Whatsapp like the rest of the world.
