It’s been reported that in the German elections, a far right party has made ‘significant gains’.
In the UK (at least before the scandals) Reform UK seems to have had a significant boost and has even surpassed the right-wing Conservative Party in some polls/predictions.
Even France, one or two years ago, was threatened with a far-right government due to the French far right party gaining a lot of support.
It feels like in the last few years, the far-right has exceeded itself and had a surge in popularity. Is this the case? And if so, wtf is fuelling it?
The moment someone thinks they’re right, they’re wrong by definition. Thinking is memetic and reductive, it has no connection to reality.
You seem to be very confused about what leftism is, though I can’t blame you. With your condescending tone it sounds like you’ve probably thought yourself the smartest person in the room for quite a while because you’ve been surrounded by extraordinarily stupid people, and now you think that that means you’re smart, and not just slightly less stupid. That leads to some serious blind spots.
Leftism is whatever the majority of the people identifying themselves as leftist believe it is - it doesn’t have anything to do with the Democratic party, every politician is in that for different reasons, and most just to enrich themselves and avoid having to do an honest day’s work.
US Politics is just realpolitik, I’m sorry to tell you but if there even is one or two actual sincere politicians in either of the parties the system is designed to make sure they never get any real power. You saw that with Sanders. And that’s if we pretend he’s actually sincere. His actual track record doesn’t prove him to be interested in anything other than his own virtue-signalling.
Mamdani is not a Leftist, he’s a Muslim, he champions a faith that would out right kill a large percentage of leftists for their beliefs and life choices. You can’t be a Leftist Muslim, obviously. Religion and religious fanaticism is Right-wing.
You’re of course right that the Left is the lesser evil by far, but people don’t want the lesser evil, they want something that isn’t evil. Like I said, nobody wants to live in either of the two dystopic hellscapes the left or the right envisions. They don’t even want to live that way themselves, they just become more and more extreme due to their war with each other. They both represent false extremes that only exist in relation to each other, they’re not real ideologies anymore, they’re counter-reactions.
Nothing will change if you keep going along with the two-party system. Your argument for the lesser evil is just your own self-serving desire to have your own guys win. Neither of you should win, and you don’t even have an identity without each other. You’re a manifestation of two opposed aspects of human psychology that refuse to integrate with the other half. Whatever you do will become sick and toxic because it rests on the suppression of the other half which will simply rule from the unconscious instead, becoming much more dangerous.
It’s like if sunshine and rain were deadlocked in some kind of ideological battle while the whole world would perish if either side actually won.

This is just… not true? If your thoughts make you stray further from reality, you are not thinking, you are deluding yourself. Thinking should create understanding, which can only actually exist in alignment with reality. This is as opposed to the oversimplified, ideal-based thought pattern that I was arguing against myself in my previous comment.
I vote left because they support good policies, I don’t choose my policies because they align with the left. Voting democrat measurably makes things better or less worse (pick your poison) than voting republican, so I vote democrat and express my opinion for what type of democrats should run by voting in the primary.
Again, this is exactly the sort of vagueposting vibes based thinking that should be avoided. Why must these parties remain equal and opposite aspects of the negative traits of reality? What mechanism would enforce this dichotomy?
Anyways even if that was true, one side still runs the country better than the other, by basically all available metrics. They also tend to agree with my beliefs and are likely to make decisions I think will improve the world.

Go and observe a tree, and then compare your experience to the word “tree” in your mind. Even among the same species, of the same age, in the same area, each tree is absolutely unique. Its shape is different, its size is different, its texture is different, even its energy differs - and for those billions and billions of unique and individual lifeforms on earth you have the word… “tree”.
Then there’s thinking about right and wrong which is infinitely more complex.

Anyone that goes along with the two party system just endlessly postphones any real societal change. And what do people who want the status quo to remain always say?
“Obviously you can see that we can’t change that right now, but if you support where we are for this election, surely we’ll get to what you want one day!” How long have they promised this? These are the words of every exploiter ever, and it never ends.
