A driver faces a misdemeanor charge over a collision in west Tucson Sunday morning that left a bicyclist dead.

    Should be manslaughter at the least, but good on KGUN for actually describing the accident well in the headlines.

    A lot of the time, news stations will call it a “bicycle accident” when a Canyonero runs someone over, and imply that it was the person on the bike’s fault.

      Still could have those charges added. The article is from the 20th, the day it happened. Initial charges would be from what the officers on scene arrested them for at the time. That doesn’t stop them from adding or changing charges in the next few days/weeks.

      Looking at the intersection mentioned in the article on Google Maps, the intersection has a stop light and street lights on all sides of the intersection, there is a bike lane along the road it says they were cycling down, and at 6am the sunrise would have been behind the Ford.

      Not very many excuses left to even try to hide behind.

      Anyone that doesnt agree is welcome to drive the I17/I10 and/or 202/101/60 any time. No one does the speed limit, 5-6 lane highways, wild lane changes and very bad decisions all around. It has made me a worse driver overall.

          In practice sure, cause people just want or need to go faster. In all reality speeding doesnt really get you anywhere faster. 10-20 miles per hour faster on a 1 hour trip isnt netting a lot of time. Speed limits are set based actual science to keep people alive, sometimes they are completely arbitrary though.

            Freeways are also a lot safer. Just stay in the right couple of lanes and go the speed of traffic. The lifted trucks can go 90 in the carpool lanes.

              Agree they are safer, technically, youre just more likely to die from a collision on the freeway than street level. Probably because there is no cross traffic.

              I wish staying to the right worked better. On Rt 60 there is a lot of on/off ramp traffic and some want to be in the left lane cut off by the midlane traffic where the right is actually where a lot more accidents happen.

                It’s worth bringing up, you’re much more likely to get in a collision on the freeway if you’re going slower than traffic, compared to faster than traffic.

                  Yes, for sure, which makes everyone more likely to crash by forcing them to speed up. Those crashes are also more likely to end with more injuries, or fatalities. This makes me a worse driver overall…

                You probably said it correctly, but, collisions on surface streets are less fatal because of cross streets?

                Freeways have much fewer collisions per mile driven by a LOT

      It’s too freaking hot and people drive too fast to get back indoors.

      During the winter it calms down but then there’s the snow birds which introduces different traffic.
