When I used to work in the computer lab at school, this big florescent lit room, after a couple hours I started to stink. I could smell myself. I was told it’s because the flickering florescents do something to my glands or metabolism or something.

I agree and I hate it. We’re all so busy and ragged that an “online platform” is the safest way to attempt to reach out and communicate with other human beings.

I miss when hanging out on the internet was a choice.

5 day work week. Always seemed odd to me as a child and now that I’m seeing how broken a lot retirees in their 50s and 60s are it’s pretty clear to me that it’s a terrible idea.

        and no physical activity

It seems mainly there’s two extremes with the old broken folks they’re talking about:

Poor health because it’s a sedentary job, or a broken body because they were in construction or something.

I’m not in a hurry to replace my gas stoves, but I am aware of the risks of gas stoves, and am fully in support of requiring outside ventilation for any gas stove installation. I’ve also electrified the other things in my home (heat pump/electric auxiliary heat, electric water heater). But cooking on gas is pretty great, and I use a really strong vent hood when I’m cooking.

Of course, many of the same risks exist for candles, unvented electric stoves, and maybe even vented electric stoves, and things like toasters and ovens, so I wonder whether the magnitude of the risk will justify phasing out indoor electric stoves, toasters, and ovens, too.

I got rid of mine and replaced it with an induction hob with power management. This way it can run on just 2.5KW but also on 7.5KW. Depending on your electrical connection.

I’ve found that 2.5 is plenty for me. No reason to change the electrical wiring.

It’s so much more pleasant to cook on than gas. It responds faster and also the cooking fumes go into the suction hood rather than all around it.

Gas produces a huge extra volume of combustion products and that ruins the efficiency of your ventilation system. Never mind the toxicity of the combustion products.

Induction is truly fucking amazing. I work with appliances and still every time I have reason to do a demonstration on induction cooking I feel a little bit like a wizard.

Gas is just bad all around imo. You lose a lot of the heat (that you are spending money on, more every day lately) to the room instead of the food. You NEED strong ventilation that goes outside to not just absolutely ruin your indoor air quality; which almost no one actually has because the people building houses generally really suck at their job. (at least in the US)

The money point is moot my dude. I have all gas appliances: dryer, hot water tank, furnace, stove. No air conditioning in the home. My gas bill in the summer is literally $30, which is $15 more than the minimum service delivery bill. You’re not losing any measurable amount of money by using a gas stove since it’s likely on for what, 15-30 minutes a day tops? Electric or induction is using power as well

Now in the winter it regularly gets to be around 200-300 or so for the furnace, but I did a lot of air sealing and insulation at the tail end of winter, should knock it down a bit. Very old home, from the 1870s. Either way, gas is still cheaper than electric. It’s why I love it.

A gas cooktop burner loses about 60% of the heat it produces to the room. Induction is 15% at most, depending on the pan because the heat lost is actually radiating from the pan.

Also, the original point of the topic is that it is very unhealthy, which gas is unfortunately.

Driving a gas/diesel car, car centric societies are hell for health. I mean car is useful but we should not use it everyday and need it to do everything.

Pollution (from combustion and tire wear) provoke breath illness and weakens our immunity system, have you seen a spike on asthma issues?

Lack of physical exercise make us sick.

Petrol gives cancer, how does it is not written on every gas pump, like for tobacco ?

I wonder what the carbon impact of the Epstein distraction in Iran is. Like would it be more or less than if an entire US states output from vehicles and semis?

Hot take but the carbon impact from the Iran war is definitely negative. The single most effective way to encourage a transition from oil is to spike oil prices. Not to mention the long term damage to oil and gas facilities and the increasing concerns over energy dependence on the most unstable parts of the world.

You know if a Democrat put a huge “This is terrible for you tax” on oil stuff, they’d lose their freaking MINDS. . . Would probably go to war over it. Lol

Somehow for 'pubbies it’s acceptable to reach the same result as long as there’s countless needless casualties, I guess. Talk about failing into success…
