  • Since Velma was quick and already pretty well defined what we know about cave paintings, I’d actually like to add on to your question since this is one of my favorite topics.

There’s a lot of art out there that was created because artists set out to create something that isn’t specifically political. That’s a little harder to escape politics on because the artists had a motive in mind when they wanted to pursue that goal. Something of note though that was in popular discourse around four years ago though was Zombie Formalism which was shown to be created as a genre of painting used as fiat currency for the wealthiest people to exchange and launder money. While that context is pretty political, if you only look at the intent of the artists they were trying to make art that said as little as possible in order to not draw any attention and be an effective form of untaxed currency. That could be a plausible bet, depending on how you personally invoke Death of the Author

  • Had this disturbing ass dream this week about some kind of disgusting crust-punk antihero in a comic book kind of story. He walks into a pawn shop on the way to some kind of crisis or other to pick up a CD. His comic book superhero power is he can absorb the personality and some associated abilities of a musician who’s CD he can listen to. He attempts to steal this CD from the pawn shop despite it being only like $2 and is confronted by the angry owner.

“You’re no superhero. You’re only stealing that piece of trash because you don’t have the balls!”

The balls- to what is not verbally specified. It’s implied perhaps to pay for it or act less antisocial. But as I, some unfortunate onlooker of some kind discover, what is actually meant is “the balls to play that CD, take on the personality of a more violent criminal musician, take up residence in the apartment above the pawn shop, and rule over the building as a squatter/slumlord for at least a week”. The shop owner seemed to want this to happen and the guy just completely gives up on his superhero task to do this until somebody comes looking for him. The absurdity of it and the overall grossness of the rest of the dream have completely made me forget most other dreams I’ve remembered recently

  • They know people’s memories are short and we’ve lost our ability to focus on anything for very long.

A small political collective in Saskatoon Canada was able to mobilize and get a moratorium on one in their neck of the woods but who knows if they’ll be able to get any legislature passed before the year is up? Look for groups local to you that are lobbying politically like this, we have to keep pressure on or they’ll just wait out the moratoriums and people’s attention spans
