I can barely plan further than two minutes ahead. By the time I’m done work, daughter is picked up, and get home, I’m basically on a 2.5 hour time crunch to make dinner for us, clean up, get her cleaned up, play a little bit with her, then have her changed, maybe a bath depending on the night, and off to bed. Usually anything I can’t have from unprepped ingredients to fully cooked ready to eat meal in under an hour just gets skipped. My wife doesn’t get home from work until after our daughter is asleep.
I do miss longer prep time meals though. I genuinely enjoy cooking but I only have time on my days off and I usually want to be doing something else during those days (either go out with my daughter and wife, deep clean the place, or another hobby).
The fact we live in late stage capitalism and have our time eaten up by forced toil just makes it that much more important that we learn to plan ahead.
One that gets me is when they go ‘ok now let’s put this into the fridge for 24 hours and then it’ll be ready for tomorrow!’
Ok well I’m hungry now so we’re skipping that step.
Does nobody read the whole recipe before starting to cook something new? Does nobody plan firther than two hours ahead?
Sometimes you do plan ahead but then the delicious smell hits you and then the stomach suggests a tasty new plan.

I don’t think anybody is unaware of that, but not everybody gets a pleasant choice.
We live in an age of convenience and instant gratification that has the majority of people accustomed to never needing to plan ahead.
We live in an age of late stage capitalism where people are working twice as much as before and don’t have nearly as much time to plan ahead.
The fact we live in late stage capitalism and have our time eaten up by forced toil just makes it that much more important that we learn to plan ahead.
So because we’re asked to do more it’s more important to do more.
Important? Sure. Possible? No.
Planning ahead usually allows one to do more with less. That’s the point of planning ahead.
Possible? It is entirely possible. Wild to claim that it isn’t possible to think ahead.

Just make enough so you have some for tomorrow, when it tastes better.

This is why I never make the chocolate chip cookies I keep intending to make
