It’s so sad and depressing that the only thing that moves the needle and makes the average Unitedstater react is the price of gas.
Obviously they’re not invading other countries and killing innocent people for nothing. Who cares about other people, kidnappings in the streets, turning against your allies, as long as they can get cheap gas, there’s no problem.
Maybe the US is due to invade another country with oil, to keep its population happy.
Eh, it’s not something unique to the US. People will always prioritize economic issues over social ones no matter where they are. Pretty hard to care about other people when you’re struggling to survive yourself. It’s just human nature.
I make more money than I ever thought I would in my life; my wife and I combined should be living quite comfortably. It’s paycheck to paycheck and we are lucky enough to have savings for about 3 months that we haven’t added to in almost 4 years…
I am from here. I’ve never made much money and I’ve never had too hard time surviving, although I’m good at living frugally.
What do you spend all that money on? Housing is expensive in areas with jobs but beyond that most major expenses can be avoided if you are smart. Food is pretty cheap. Clothes are cheap. Entertainment can be free. I mean I’m not saying there isn’t struggle here especially among the poor but to say the average person is barely surviving seems an extreme exaggeration. Especially compared to places where food is not affordable or medical care is not available.
You gotta have 5 streaming services, fast food every day and you gotta buy into all the latest trends to survive, don’t you know? I can barely get by on 400k a year!

And remember, essentially all of these statistics have to do with people that have essentially no savings, and no real income left after expenses at that point. They’re not even truly enjoying themselves after spending so much of their time on labor, they’re just making enough to live at bare minimum and that’s it.
in their defence (which they deserve only a little of, but it’s worth it for the understanding) their whole country beats them down so much that they barely have the energy to think about the next roadblock in front of them. they have to be active participants in defence of their life, daily

Maybe we should change our infastructure to not be so dependent on oil to get to work or go get groceries in the first place? Once we and the EU do that, we could just completely get rid of any diplomtic ties to the middle east and just let the middle east fight, protect, and govern itself

Rule of thumb: economic issues beat social issues almost 100% of the time with US voters
