This meme isn’t a jab at VR or any other single technology, VR is a good piece of tech. But its still one of those technologies that were way overhyped by tech bro billionaires.

9·1 day agoInterestingly the website menu only links to Privacy page, while the link to the actual privacy policy is in the bottom of the page.
I skimmed through it, haven’t found anything terrible, or any inconsistencies between Privacy and Privacy Policies. But maybe someone has a sharper eye than I do on privacy policies.
Also, I wonder what model is it under the hood. Truth Social was found out to be an illegal fork of Mastodon, so maybe this America AI was some open-weights model too?

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•I don't fucking *want* "infinite personalized music", I want music conceptualized, created, and played by human beings.English
1·2 days agoI’m just about middle aged tho, so I suppose there would likely be different saturation levels in different age groups.
Definitely possible, my social group is college and adjacent, mainly liberal arts and computer science students and occasionally staff. Perhaps that’s why I see so many AI people.
And thanks for sharing, it’s always interesting to peek how different life outside of your bubble can be in ways you can’t even imagine.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that everybody does right now that is common and normal but is actually probably very unhealthy?English
1·2 days agoFrankly, no, I didn’t check Google Scholar or similar. I only asked an LLM if there is research and what it says.
I downvoted because I hate people talking about romantic relationships experiences like everyone has or had one. And overall reminding me in any way romantic love exists

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that everybody does right now that is common and normal but is actually probably very unhealthy?English
63·2 days agoThings that could be harmful but we don’t know for sure yet?
Possibly porn. Currently we really lack research on porn’s effect on people. Whoever tells you confidently it’s normal or degenerate is a liar. No one knows. We are just running a society-wide experiment in real time.

1·2 days agoI don’t know. I would say in my social circle there are 10 AI fanatics per every person strongly against LLMs. 20-30 per person if we include normies who just use LLMs casually and don’t think about it.
And saying fanatics I genuinely mean believers that generate massive amounts of code, text, images, websites and other slop with LLMs on daily basis and brag how it skyrocketed their productivity and it’s the best thing ever.

It’s hypercompetitive from an early age I guess? College exams are matter of life-or-death, it’s the only ticket to a good life you will ever get, the spots are limited, and you are either pride or disgrace of the family depending on your academic excellence. And you are competing with thousands of other kids who are also pressured to excel.
I would probably kill myself if I was pressured so much to compete with fellow humans as a kid, honestly.

Technology@lemmy.world•When did Google get so f-ing weird?English
5·4 days agoBing and Google. Separate index so far only available for France.
I use it anyway, I like how it shows climate impact I made by using Ecosia with ads (right now it’s 3 trees planted, 22 square meters of land restored).
I use DDG when I need to search pictures though, because Ecosia doesn’t have “no AI pictures” toggle, so it’s all AI slop.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Realistically, what do people plan to do on the Moon and Mars that requires a permanent, or long term human presence there?English

3·9 days agoI am surprised they actually didn’t see it. When gamepass was introduced, it seemed like insanity - how is $10 subscription with access to $60 titles is going to pay off, this makes no sense. Well… It didn’t.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•three business days feels generousEnglish
101·10 days agoNo, because 10% of richest people on Earth (majorly Western Bloc, including Europe) are responsible for 50-66% of global emissions.
For example:
Ethiopian is responsible for 0.14 tonnes of CO2 emissions yearly on average.
A Swede on average is responsible for 3.43 tonnes of emissions.
An American is responsible for 13.83 tonnes.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_per_capita
The issue isn’t overpopulation, not at all, but that we have a bunch of countries with hyperconsumerist economy, a car in every household, high electricity usage, accessible red meat, air-conditioning etc.

15·10 days agoYep. Here is a cool map to help visualize it in your head.

They have had their Store for over 10 years now. I envy you if you haven’t had to deal with Windows for so long. It’s not even user-friendly anymore, it just hates it’s users and constantly tries to scam you with ads and pop-ups
