It’s the result of falling for “voting does nothing/voting is actually harmful/don’t vote” propaganda (like this bumper sticker) once a decade, allowing the Republicans to cyclically come to power and erode all the checks and balances put in place, turning the system into a corrupt dumpster fire that makes it even easier for them to get the populous to fall for “voting does nothing/voting is actually harmful/don’t vote” propaganda. Rinse/repeat.

As opposed to choosing the greater evil for a change?

The actual issue is money in politics. It’s the reason no politician wants voter reform. It’s why Bernie never had a chance, not just as a presidential candidate. You need preferential voting, no more electoral college and no more Senate - pro rata representation only.

No it’s the result of the bigger evil being voted into office regularly because the majority of people won’t get off their ass and vote for the lesser evil.

There is no reason not to do both.

Revolt and vote for the lesser of two evils. Because if the one doesn’t work, at least it isn’t the bigger of two evils on the throne.

          Was he?

Seems to me that, if at the end of your presidency homelessness is up 18% and people can’t afford basic food staples, and you’re still sending billions in free WMD’s to a genocider mid-genocide anyway, maybe you don’t get to claim you’re a ‘lesser evil’.

Americans don’t want to admit it, but what you’re usually getting is two greater evils in different packages.

The point of these posts (and you’ll find similar ‘don’t vote’ posts tailored to other communities) is to drive voter apathy.

They’re not going to get you to vote their way but if they spend a few million putting fake voter apathy content in all of the opposition’s community then they will shave a few percentage points off of voter participation.

Someone doesn’t understand that the Democrats have been running that platform for a while now and been using it as a whipping rallying call to kowtow the actual left into compliance with them without any real consideration given to their ideology. The Democrats are not actually left, they’re at best middle of the road conservatism and people need to realize that.

So instead of blaming the system that gave us two parties, you blame the voters who had no choice but to vote for two parties?

really it seems like it’s blaming people for just voting & hoping, instead of organizing and building a movement. voting for the lesser evil is not enough.

So instead of complaining and bringing attention to a subject we’re supposed to shut up and comply? How good of an authoritarian view you have there.

This person isn’t just complaining. Look at their post history. Their only goal is to suppress voting. They aren’t advocating for taking other actions or anything. It’s literally just “don’t vote for the better option because it isn’t good enough.”

If they’re complaining and suggesting other useful actions people can take then fine. Whatever. Voting takes 5 minutes though. It may not have the biggest effect, but it has a strong effect for how little effort it takes. If you want to contact your representatives, protest, or destroy stuff, then fine, but that means you have plenty of time to vote too, so you might as well.

Bringing attention to a problem is fine (even though I’d wager we’re all painfully aware of this one already). But blaming the victims is not. So there’s that.

Can we stop shaming and start telling people exactly what they need to do? You can’t shame people into activism when the government has purposely misinformed and left them ignorant on what real effective collective action looks like.

Ironically enough, the actual step one is to get to know your community. Pissing them off with a bumper sticker is kinda the opposite of that.

Nope, it’s also a consequence of often choosing the greater evil.

And for favouring short term over long term planning.

    And zero-sum thinking.

    And us vs them mentality.

And a lack of critical thinking in general.
