    https://www.statista.com/chart/27887/big-oil-quarterly-profits/

A bunch of fun facts on this site.

Apparently, oil companies still like their profit margins in the billions. Execs gotta have their yachts and we need to keep inflating those shares for the hedgies.

Focus on local plant-based food if you can. Fresh produce, tofu, grains and legumes are still going to be way more affordable than non-essential boxed/bagged foods and sodas. Non-local plant-based food is good, too, if you can afford it. Supporting companies like Beyond is a good thing. I don’t mind that the ranchers are suffering. Start by consuming less animal products, that’ll save a ton!

Most of our fertilizer comes through a strait currently controlled by houthis, I wouldn’t expect produce to be much cheaper for much longer. Our lack of sustainable farming practices mean without ferts we’re looking at a dust bowl situation.

40% of our fertilizer goes to corn/soybeans that go to producing beef and even then,

The majority of fertilizers used for crop production in the U.S. are applied to corn, wheat, and soybeans. USDA survey data suggest that fertilizers used for these crops have accounted for 92%, 94% and 95% of total applications of nitrogen (N), phosphate (P), and potassium (K), respectively, since 2002[1] (National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS) Agricultural Chemical Use Program).

        https://farmdocdaily.illinois.edu/2025/05/trends-in-fertilizer-use-and-efficiency-in-the-us.html

I mean outside of wheat, the other two Americans don’t eat directly anyways.

We’d probably be okay with a reduction in fertilizer and like you said went back to crop rotation that small farmers still use where I grew up, actually planted crops for directly eating and of course upheave the entire corporate ag as we know it, I think the impacts to produce would be, I won’t say mitigated, but manageable.

Also, veganic farming is a thing.

It’s probably a good idea to stop using nitrogen-based fertilizer, or at least greatly reduce usage of it, reduce pesticide/herbicide usage and decrease use of GMO monocropping. Vertical farming for non-grains is an option, too.

We’re going to go the way of the Mayans if changes aren’t made. The current slowdown and eventual population decline are also positive developments in this scenario.

Landry issued an executive order temporarily allowing dyed diesel, typically reserved for off-road vehicles, to be used in certain highway vehicles

Cool. Solving a supply issue by suspending taxes. Supply and demand will not care

Also gave a nice excuse to everyone to bee able to get caught with dyed fuel for quite a time. The dye will remain even after several fills

Not that it matters much though. Pure window dressing, considering how little dyed diesel is available in the market anyway

Well, donnie and his accomplices keep claiming Biden “left them the worst economy ever” and “the highest inflation ever” and the people they are talking to rarely bat an eye, so I could see Republicons getting away with claiming Biden caused the Iran war, too.

Its really no longer tied to that, it has more to do with refineries in the US shut down for maintenance and the refineries that were hit in Russia, Ukraine and a little middle east capacity that went down. Oil inventories are actually rising, because there isn’t enough refining capacity for it. It’s why diesel is so expensive right now and oil isn’t over $200 a barrel.

I’m worried there will be some fucked up deal to have it suddenly all at least temporarily under control within the weeks ahead, getting Republicans favor again.

We would need to give Iran a very attractive offer for that. They are aware of our internal politics, and want the Republicans to do poorly. They are also very distrustful of us, so any benifit to them would neec to be front loaded. But once they get the front loaded benefit, they have no reason to follow through.

Assuming you get through all of that, Iran can not just flip a switch and fix the global energy market if they wanted to. Infrastructure has been destroyed, supply chains have collapsed, and tankers are slow.

It would take too long for the prices to change. The ideal solution is to force the prices to have a huge discount for the week of November 1st, and then send them back up the week after.

This is COMMUNISM! As a Voter in Louisiana I OVERWHELMINGLY voted for EXACTLY these Gas Prices! It’s a SMALL Price to PAY to make sure Iran, who had NO Nukes or INTEREST in getting Nukes before Trump bombed them, has NO Nukes!

So what prevents the rest of the states from declaring a state of emergency and voiding the 24.4 cents for diesel, and 18.4 cents for standard fuel that is taxed by the federal government?

I get wanting to make fun of them but there are ways to reduce fuel prices via a state of emergency, don’t get me wrong it’d hurt like a bitch but you could do it.

I was moreso referring to work from home mandates, and putting in incentives out to reduce the amount of trucks on the road stuff like that. I legit don’t see what relevance fuedalism has in this situation since that’s basically irrelevant to things like price controls.

Nah, just have a brain fuck of a migraine, I’d rather be safe with superfluous apostrophes than fuck up a sentence completely.

Regardless nothing about what I said is impossible, unwarranted, or unprecedented. Frankly it’d be better to take proactive measures to reduce fuel prices or at least reduce fuel consumption than risk economic collapse because no one can due interstate trade outside of the rails which would bottleneck badly. Don’t think anyone wants the fuel crisis from the 70s back, but we may not have much of a choice given current circumstances.
